Ballyhornan Scout Centre is owned and maintained by the Down and Connor Scout County, Scouting Ireland. Our 5 huts are named after some of the famous Mourne Mountains. You can see the outline of our Centre above. We have a total of 56 beds in the Binnian and the Commedagh accommodation huts. Meelbeg is our leaders, hut and is a ‘Scout Free Zone.’ Bearnagh is equipped with a commercial style kitchen and canteen.
Please remember to bring sleeping bags, bed sheets and pillows when staying at the Centre.
The main hall is located in the Donard block. It measures 17m x 9m.
The hall has been used for a number of different activities, including conferences, meetings, leader training, games, movie nights etc. If you need any additional equipment when using the hall, such as a flipchart, ask upon request and we will try our best to meet your needs.
The hall has one rule No BALL GAMES ALLOWED!
Bearnagh is where you can find our commercial styled kitchen and canteen. It is fully equipped and caters for 50 users.
Meelbeg- Leaders Accommodation
Meelbeg is equipped with 7 beds. It has a small domestic kitchen. It is the best place to relax for a cuppa. It has indoor heating but in the leaders’ common area there is a wood stove. Firewood for this costs an additional £3 per bag and is available on request. (No other wood can be used in the stove)
Shopping- Ardglass & Strangford are the best places to find a supermarket facilities.
Rubbish- Please put all rubbish in black bins provided on site!
