Ballyhornan Scout Centre is located in Ballyhornan village in eastern County Down, Northern Ireland, located along the coast of the Irish Sea. In Irish it is also known as ‘Baile Uí Chornáin — Ó Cornáin’s townland’ the origin is Baile Torannan, or Toranan’s town.
Ballyhornan Scout Centre opened its doors in September 2015. It is a self catering, state of the art hostel centre with 2 fully equipped accommodation blocks, industrial kitchen, dining hall and scout hall.
Our indoor accommodation include two fully equipped accommodation blocks with an extra accommodation block for leaders that has a ‘Scout free zone.’ All blocks were fitted in 2019 with new plumping, toilets, showers and mattresses. Commedagh accommodation block is furnished with 32 beds and Binnian accommodation block is furnished with 24 beds and comes equipped with its own canteen and kitchen. Meelbeg (Leaders Hut) comes equipped with 7 beds and has its own small kitchen. There is a full industrial kitchen / canteen in Bearnagh Block with state of the art cooking equipment. In the heart of the centre is our scout hall that comes equipped with a projector screen, heating, toilets and games store. In the games store you can find numerous activities for your scouts.
